Women in Street Singapore

Women in Street Singapore, or WiSSG, is a group aiming to connect, inspire and develop female street photographers in our little red dot. A bold and varied group of women with various backgrounds and nationalities connected through their shared passion for street photography. Founded in 2020 by Marie Dailey and Charlene Winfred.

Street photography is a genre of photography that captures everyday life, however it presents itself. Often featuring people, but not necessarily. Never posed or scripted and always in public spaces, street photography aims to record the essence of a culture, a city, a people, a country or a time.

We’re a part of the global Women in Street community. Find us on Instagram, join our community on Facebook, or drop us an email to get in touch directly.

AHEAD

– a glimpse into Singapore’s future

The works of the WiSSG community were on display at the International Singapore Photography Festival 2022, on show at 37 Emerald Hill, October 8-9th 2022.

19 female street photographers based in Singapore gave their perspective on the future of our little red dot. Ranging from the optimistic to the dystopian. Topics that were touched in the exhibition upon were climate change, racial harmony, children, technology, urban development, national sentiment, celebrations, the elderly and the emancipation of women.

Women by Women

– a street photography exhibition celebrating Singapore’s women

The inaugural exhibition of the Women in Street SG took place at Gilman Barracks at Art Outreach in March 2022. Opening on International Women’s Day, the exhibition celebrates the women on Singapore. The photographs on display are selected from submissions from female street photographers based in Singapore.

In September 2022 a selection of the works are on display at Badt & Co on Joo Chiat Road.
